All our coke is obtained through the distillation of high-quality imported coal. We directly follow the entire logistics chain of raw materials, from the loading ports to the unloading operations at our Savona terminal.

Dry distillation

Dry distillation is the process through which coal is gradually heated in the absence of air. The coke is given its desired characteristics by adjusting the temperature and the duration of the process. The high quality of the product obtained in this way allows us to meet the needs of customers around the world.

Cogeneration plant

In operation since early 1998 and upgraded in 2003, the cogeneration plant now produces 24 MW of power, i.e. a total of 150,000,000 kWh/year. The plant produces electricity for the national distribution grid and supplies electricity and steam to the coke plant for internal use. Generating energy economically and efficiently is even more important when large amounts of energy, such as coke gas, are available as a by-product of a production process.

Environmental impact

A good attitude towards the environment is also at the heart of the activities carried out by Italiana Coke, which in this regard has looked to the future and committed itself with significant investments. This includes a cogeneration plant that can use the gases derived from the coke production process and transform them into electricity.
