During this process, the coking coal is steadily heated up in absence of air.
By controlling the temperature and the duration of the process, the required grade of coke is achieved.
The high quality coke resulting from this process enables Italiana Coke to satisfy the needs of its clients all over the world.
Environmental issues are also at the heart of Italiana Coke’s activities.
With this concern in mind, Italiana Coke has made the appropriate investments for the future.
As a result, practically all the gas derived from the coke production is now utilised by the cogeneration power station.
The cogeneration power plant has been operating since early 1998 and, after being repowered in 2003, reached the generation of 24 MW of electric power, corresponding to 160.000.000 kWh/yr.
The power plant supplies electricity to the grid as well as electricity and steam to the coke plant for internal consumption.
Generating energy in an economical and efficient way takes on utmost importance when a significant source, such as coke oven gas, is available as by-product of an industrial process.
